About Joanna

Jpicnobck

My first "book" was a hand-bound, ten-page story about a talking wolf, written and illustrated for my best friend. Yes, I still have it. No, you can’t see it. Okay... maybe if you ask nicely.

Today, speculative fiction is where I get to be my most authentic, haunted, and strange self. I write the kind of stories that live in the shadows: tangled with fantasy, horror, queer longing, and the dark roots of old folklore. Especially Bulgarian folklore—my favorite thing to take apart, run through a kaleidoscope, and put back together... only twisted.

If you're drawn to stories that feel a little bittersweet, a little raw, and a lot like a twisted tale, you might find yourself at home in my pages.

Yours truly,

J.

BIO

Joanna is a speculative fiction author and Bulgarian immigrant based in Canada. Her work has been published in The Moss Puppy Magazine and The Selkie’s Rebirth anthology.

Outside of writing, she enjoys spending time in nature and is convinced that a crisp 15°C is the perfect hiking weather. She curates a growing collection of vinyl, and her most recent journey in piano learning can be best described as “earnest chaos in minor keys”. She lives with her cat Leo, who is perpetually unimpressed but deeply loved.
