FORMATTING, SPECIFICS, AND GENRES I WORK WITH
-
Manuscripts should be formatted according to the industry standards—Times New Roman (or another standard font), 12pt, double space, 1" margins.
-
I prefer Word or Google Docs (but let me know in case you don't work with those programs so we can find another option that works).
-
For full manuscript edits, I work with a contract for legal protection at both ends.
-
For full manuscript edits, I offer a free 3-page sample.
-
At this time, I only accept payment through Paypal.
-
Payment options are available upon request.
-
Timelines depend on the length and complexity of your manuscript and will be discussed upfront.
-
NOTE: Copy/Line editing does not equal proofreading. Proofreading is the final stage of the editorial process and is required after you have applied the changes from the copy/line edits.
-
MSWL: I'm happy to work with all of your stories, but I'm particularly excited about SFF, anything with strong romantic (sub)plots, retellings and folklore-inspired stories. I'm NOT the right person for stories that focus on graphic abuse, romanticize abuse of any form, use mental illness as a plot device, or engage in harmful narratives of any kind.
TESTIMONIALS
Joanna edited my first full manuscript (YA Fantasy) and gave such detailed and constructive feedback. She gave overall critiques on flow, pacing, and character development on a chapter level, then also provided useful line edits as well. She encouraged me to incorporate the writing techniques I was best at into more of my manuscript while suggesting ways I could improve on other skills.
Some editors I leave feeling defeated, but not with Joanna! Alongside her feedback, she fangirled over my characters and that made me feel hopeful and excited that my manuscript really has potential!
~ Chelsea Lauren, author of Creatures Most Vile
After getting nothing but form rejections, I got a submission package critique from Joanna, and when I tell you it made a difference, I mean... it made A DIFFERENCE! She helped me rework my query and opening pages, and I finally understood what wasn't working. My request rate increased from 0% to 18%! Ultimately, I've chosen the self-publishing path, and am now working on revisions after a developmental edit I purchased from Joanna. Her feedback is invaluable to me, and I know this book will shine in the end. Her critique style is incredibly kind, too—she was honest and critical but encouraged me every step of the way, and not once her critique felt degrading (which I find very rare). You can just tell she has your best interest at heart. I'm very thankful I found Joanna and would love to work with her again.

Joanna really knows her stuff! She has read over all my queries and manuscripts, and always provides insightful, helpful feedback. Her knowledge of story structure is fantastic! I now have a literary agent, and I truly don't think I would have gotten this far without Joanna's help.

Joanna helped support the query letter with amazing enthusiasm! Her editing skills amazed me with pulling apart my query letter and offering both advice and encouragement. It allowed me to see the big picture of my story and offered a review. Thank you so much!

As an ESL writer, I decided a copyedit would be the best choice for my first novel so I could query with peace of mind. Joanna did an exceptional job copyediting my manuscript. Her attention to detail and insightful suggestions significantly improved the clarity and flow of my work. She was professional, responsive, and worked with my timeline (which was rather frantic at times). I highly recommend Joanna, especially if you need someone to understand the ESL-writer struggles!
